The Centre for Foundation Studies at Villa College held its Multicultural Night on 19 August 2026, featuring approximately 200 students from the May 2026 intake of the English Proficiency 1 module. The event served as a practical learning assessment, designed to help students apply language skills through collaborative research, cultural exhibitions, and public presentations.
Working in structured teams, participants represented nine countries: Palestine, Spain, Egypt, Italy, France, Mexico, Iran, China, and Japan. The project required students to manage group responsibilities, synthesise cultural information, and engage directly with attendees. This practical approach supports language development while building the interpersonal and presentation skills needed in modern workplace environments.
The event welcomed Ms Aishath Yooliya Haleem, Vice-chairperson of the Mental Health Awareness Foundation (MHAF), as the Chief Guest. Student exhibits and performances were evaluated by an independent judging panel comprising Fathimath Umar, Amish Abdulla, and Dr Mohamed Uzain.
In the competition results, Iran secured first place for Best Stall, with Italy and Spain finishing in second and third place. In the Best Performance category, China claimed first place, followed by Iran in second and France in third. Through applied activities such as Multicultural Night, Villa College reinforces classroom learning with practical experiences that build student confidence and communication competence.
