Introduction

The Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) programme will produce professional graduates who are able to plan, design, construct and manage modern building projects. The programme covers a wide range of civil engineering specialist areas such as environment, water, highways, transportation, geotechnical and structural engineering. The syllabus encompasses the construction of commercial and industrial buildings, water supply and wastewater systems, irrigation, drainage and flood protection systems, bridges, roads and transport systems, port harbour and airport facilities. This programme provides sound engineering and technological knowledge in the specialized field through state-of-the-art laboratories and modern simulation tools. It also incorporates a capstone project, mini-projects, and final year project, to enable the students to graduate with creative and innovative solutions to complex engineering problems. The industrial training module provides the opportunity for students to experience the real-world working environment. Other soft skills such as effective communication and presentation skills, entrepreneurial skills, professional ethics, safety, environment and sustainability skills and project management skills are developed through various engineering activities. Various technologies of Industry 4.0 related to civil engineering are incorporated in the syllabus to prepare them for the job market. Furthermore, this programme provides an excellent pathway for professional practice and recognition as a qualified professional engineer.
