Villa College Law Society, Faculty of Shariah and law in partnership with Public Interest Law Centre and Maldivian Red Crescent took part in the Migrants Day Festival 2023 organised by PILC on 23 December 2023.
The Villa College Law Society Student leaders supervised by the society's Executive Advisor Advocate and Lecturer at the Faculty of Shariah and Law of Villa College, Amish Abdullah provided information to the migrant workers about the course of 'legal response' that is to be taken when they come across any legal issue relevant to their day to day life in the Maldives.
The event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by Introduction by Maldivian Red Crescent, Male’ City Office Manager, Mohamed Adeel and a speech by Public Interest Law Centre, President, Uza. Mariyam Shunana.
The VCLS student leader and volunteers conducted distinctive legal awareness and engaging activities including Navigation stall, Police help brochures, puzzle games attracting the migrants in engaging awareness activities. The migrant workers were extended with the legal support to be provided by the Faculty of Shariah and Law practicing lawyers on a pro-bono basis witnessing the struggle of migrant workers. Migrants from countries including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines and Thailand including many others attended the festival.
