Villa College Celebrates International Women's Day with Inspiring Event

Villa College celebrated International Women's Day with a lively and meaningful event, bringing its community together to honor women's achievements and discuss the importance of gender equality. The event, held at the Villa College Hall, commenced with a warm welcome from the Villa College Staff Club, delivered by its president, Fathimath Rasha. Ms. Rasha's inspiring words set the tone for a day focused on empowerment and progress.


The highlight of the celebration was a captivating keynote address by Ms. Aisha Nurain Janah, a renowned leader and entrepreneur. Ms. Janah, the Founder of Kandūfā Foundation and the Inaugural Chair of the Institute of Directors Maldives, among other significant roles, shared her extensive experience in driving transformation across corporate governance, construction, ESG strategy, and philanthropy. Her insights on breaking barriers and fostering women's leadership resonated deeply with the audience.


Following the keynote, a dynamic panel discussion titled "Opportunities and Roadblocks Faced by Women" took center stage. Moderated by Aishath Mish'a, Manager, Policy and International Relations at Villa College, the panel featured a diverse group of accomplished individuals. The panelists included Dr. Aishath Nasheeda, Head of School and Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology and Counselling; Dr. Fazeela Ibrahim, Dean and Adjunct-Assistant Professor of FES at the Institute for Research and Innovation; Udhuma Abdul Latheef, Head of School for both the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the School of Computer Science; Prof. Ma Yuehan, Director of the Chinese Language Centre; and Ahmed Thynum, Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Counselling.


These panelists shared their personal journeys, insights, and practical advice on navigating challenges and maximizing opportunities for women in various fields. The discussion covered a wide range of topics, from workplace dynamics to societal expectations, sparking a meaningful exchange of ideas and perspectives.


The event concluded with a resounding message of appreciation for all the strong, talented, and inspiring women at Villa College and beyond. Attendees were encouraged to continue striving for progress, breaking down barriers, and making a positive impact in their respective fields.
