The Psychology Association of Villa College recently inaugurated the Risen Peer Empowerment Programme in a special ceremony held at the Psychology Lab on 22nd January 2023. The programme aims to provide psychosocial support to students by training their peers to identify and address their mental health needs.
The need for such a programme arises from the fact that some students may not recognize their need for psychosocial support, while others may feel that their problems are too mild to consult a professional. By training peers to provide support, the programme hopes to foster a caring community at Villa College.
The Risen Peer Empowerment Programme is being conducted from 22nd to 26th January 2023 at the Psychology Lab, with the trainer being Mr Adyb from Journey NGO. Mr Adyb is an internationally certified addiction professional and a global drug demand reduction master trainer, making him well-qualified to lead this programme.
The programme's objective is to equip students with the necessary skills to provide psychosocial support to their peers effectively. Through this programme, participants will learn about the different types of mental health issues that their peers may be experiencing and how to recognize when professional intervention is necessary. They will also learn effective communication skills and how to provide peer support in a non-judgmental and compassionate manner.
The Risen Peer Empowerment Programme is an excellent opportunity for students at Villa College to contribute to the mental health and wellbeing of their peers. By providing a supportive community, students will have a companion who can aid them in times of need and promote a culture of caring and support.
The Psychology Association of Villa College is committed to fostering a positive and healthy learning environment for all students. The Risen Peer Empowerment Programme is just one of the many initiatives that the Association has taken to support the mental health and wellbeing of students on campus. With this programme, Villa College aims to create a supportive community that prioritises mental health and wellbeing.
