Placements for Psychology students from the first and second batch begins from 3rd January 2021. 42 psychology students from Villa College begin their 125 hours of practical training at 5 different psychological service providing institutions, different departments at Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, Maldives Institute for Psychological Services, Training and Research (MIPSTAR), Institute of counselling and psychotherapy (ICP), Society of Health Education (SHE) and Cyma Care.The main aim of this placement is to help students gain a better understanding of the general work environment of the psychological services that are provided within the institutions. Students will be spending time doing administrative tasks and practice communication skills that are required in the field. Students will also gain an in-depth understanding of how to maintain logs, consultations forms, how to prepare for sessions (taking out assessments/ preparing room). Students will also learn and acquire skills to understand the discipline through observations and maintain confidentiality. Students will build on the skills to conduct assessments and evaluation for cases. Students will benefit from the placement as they will be able to use the knowledge, skills and attitude acquired from the program into practical use. Students will also have an opportunity to learn from the professionals in the working environment, developing relationships with potential employers and gain a better understanding into the areas they want to specialize in, hence giving them an edge in the employment market.
