MOU SIGNING CEREMONY BETWEEN THE PEOPLE’S MAJILIS SECRETARIAT AND VILLA COLLEGE

Villa College and the Secretariat of People’s Majlis, the administrative office of the Parliament of the Republic of Maldives, have established a significant partnership aimed at fostering collaboration in various areas. The agreement seeks to promote cooperation through research, education, internships, and training programs, with a focus on legal awareness and outreach initiatives. It also includes joint academic programs covering the roles and responsibilities of the People’s Majlis, scrutiny and oversight of the budget process, and parliamentary systems and practices, particularly in encouraging public participation in the Legislature. Additionally, the collaboration explores the historical evolution of the People’s Majlis and the development of the Maldivian Constitution, offering a broader understanding of the country’s legislative framework.


The partnership also emphasizes the exchange of expertise, vocational training, student internships, and employability opportunities, along with fostering joint research collaborations and skill development programs. Both parties are committed to contributing to a deeper understanding of societal issues, legal education, and governance. There is also room for exploring other academic linkages and cooperative efforts as mutually identified.


The signing ceremony was attended by several distinguished individuals. Representing the People’s Majlis were Uza. Fathimath Niusha, Secretary General of the People’s Majlis, and Seeniya Saeed, Senior Parliamentary Education Officer, alongside other dignitaries. From Villa College, Dr. Ali Najeeb, Vice Rector of Villa College, was present, accompanied by Uza. Asna Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Shari’ah and Law, and lecturers Amish Abdullah and Uza. Aishath Khaleela, who were part of the Faculty of Shari’ah and Law team. This landmark agreement is a testament to Villa College's commitment to fostering educational growth and meaningful engagement with national institutions.
