LAW SOCIETY INAUGURATION CEREMONY

Last week, (20th October) marks the inauguration of the first student based Law Society in Maldives by the Faculty of Shariah and Law of Villa College. After the recitation of the Quran, Uza. Asna Ahmed, Dean of Faculty of Shariah and Law gave the welcome address to start the ceremony. To commemorate the inauguration of the Law Society, an introductory video was launched by the Chief Guest, Uz. Ismail Wisham, President of the Bar Council of the Maldives. The elected members of the Law Society took their oaths presented to them by the Guest of Honor Hon. Justice (Dr.) Azmiralda Zahir, Justice of the Supreme Court of the Maldives. This was followed by the official signing and badging of the elected members by the Guest of Honor. Shortly after the Chief Guest, Uz. Ismail Wisham President of the Bar Council of the Maldives, shared his thoughts on the ceremony which was then followed by a demonstration video of the Moot Court by the students of the Law Society. To end the ceremony, a memento to the Chief Guest & the Guest of Honor was presented by the Rector of Villa College, Dr. Ahmed Anwar followed by a speech by the newly elected president of the Law Society, Mr. Dhiaam Haneef.


The Law Society aims to increase graduate and employability skills of students, organizes networking events and spreads socio-legal awareness, promotes pro bono culture among the law students while simultaneously building a nation of well-trained law graduates. VCLS aims to benefit students by providing them with practical learning and legal experiences. While creating opportunities to strengthen their career profile through skilled workshops, competitions, academic sessions organized by the VCLS and partner organizations. The Inauguration Ceremony was graced by the presence of the the Chief Guest, Uz. Ismail Wisham, President of the Bar Council of the Maldives, and the Guest of Honor, Hon. Justice (Dr.) Azmiralda Zahir, Justice of the Supreme Court of the Maldives.
