5 tips for effective studying

Students often struggle to manage time and study effectively. Mostly, students who progress through O’ levels, A’ levels and finally to higher education, struggle more in order to cope with the increasing pressure and standards. These are 5 easy tips which can enhance your learning!

1. Don’t cram

Alright. This one’s pretty straightforward. This is something students hear about all the time. Hear us out though. Cramming isn’t going to help you learn faster. When you cram, it leaves you with little to no time to look over notes, textbook pages and concepts. You should take your time, go through your notes one by one, identify your weak areas and work on them one by one until you get the hang of it.

2. Take notes

Taking your own notes in the class will help you immensely when your exams are just around the corner. It is extremely difficult to understand some concepts and ideas while the class is going on. It is important to take your own notes with what you understand at the time. Then, you can analyse these notes later and fill the gaps. This way, you realise what you already know and can work to learn and understand what you don’t know.

3. Discover your own learning style

Not everyone is the same. Likewise, it is important to bear in mind that not everyone will have the same learning style as well. Listed below are 3 common learning styles. Try these out and discover your own!

  • Auditory learners: They prefer to learn by listening and reading out loud. You can try to read your notes out loud and discuss them with your peers. You could also record key pointers and play it back when you study.

  • Visual learners: These learners prefer to learn by seeing and observing. You can try to use colours in your notes and draw diagrams with which you can identify the key points easily. You could also try to remember some ideas as images.

  • Kinesthetic learners: They learn by doing things. You could try to use techniques like model building and role-playing to revise key points.

4. Use available resources

We are living in a world where information can be found in a matter of seconds. There are numerous applications that can be used in studying. Also, you can always have a chat in the social media groups with your friends and lecturers.

Try using these tips while studying and enhance your learning even further.
