Dr. Ahmed Shahid

Dean of Research

Dr. Ahmed Shahid is the Dean of Research at the Institute for Research and Innovation, Villa College, a position he has held since March 2018. Previously, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Business Management. He joined Villa College in July 2016. Dr. Shahid began his career in education in 1991 and since then has worked in a number of schools in Maldives, first as a primary teacher, then as a headmaster and principal. He has also worked at the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and served as a diplomat in the High Commission of Maldives in India. From 2010-2012, he headed the secretariat of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives as the Secretary-General. During his government service, Dr. Shahid participated and headed the Maldivian delegations in a number of official trade negotiations within the SAARC region, held in India, Nepal and Maldives (including Expert Group on SAARC Agreement on Trade in Services; SAARC Committee on Economic Cooperation; and SAFTA Committee of Experts). In addition to a number of consultancy projects in the Maldives for UNDP and various government agencies, he has also served as an international consultant for a number of projects in Australia, Albania, Denmark, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Timor Leste. Since August 2017, Dr. Shahid has also been serving as a Senior Adviser to the Danish Institute for Human Rights (Denmark).

Dr. Shahid teaches a number of modules at Villa College, particularly in the post-graduate programmes. He has been the lecturer and module leader for Leadership, Complexity and Change (LCC) of the UWE MBA since September 2016. He has also been the lecturer for Integrated Research and Professional Development (IMRPD), and Conducting Evidence Based Research (CEBR) for the UWE MBA. Dr. Shahid has also been the coordinator for a number of research support programmes and activities of the college.
