Villa College’s annual breakfast with industry leaders
A breakfast with industry leaders, which is an annual networking event that is organised by Villa College, has been held at Champa Central Hotel today. Among the participants were leading figures from the government and private sectors as well as senior management of various schools.
The keynote speaker at this event was Mr Hussain Afeef, who is a leading speaker in the human resources, training and development field. He is the regional director of training for the Lux Group. His speech was on the theme of ensuring that decision-making in companies is based on research and concrete evidence.
During the event, the two organizations which sponsored the highest numbers of students for studies at Villa College in the past year, Universal Enterprises and Maldives Airports Company Limited, were recognised for their contributions and awarded commemorative plaques. The awards were handed over by the Rector of Villa College, Dr Ahmed Anwar.
In addition to the above, different ways in which industry could help in developing students through were discussed in the event.
Delegates from the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol , Dr. Jenna Pandeli and Mr. Anthony John Bray arrived today. Dr. Jenna Pandeli is the Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader and Mr. Anthony John Bray is the Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the Faculty of Business and Law of UWE, Bristol.
University of the West of England (UWE) is one of the partners of Villa College collaborating since 2015, to provide UK degree programmes in the Maldives. The successful partnership allows students enrolled in these programmes in Villa College to have several unique opportunities which are valuable.
The primary purpose of the visit is to conduct staff development activities and workshops and to conduct teaching for the students. During the visit, students of Villa College will get the opportunity to experience the teaching from these expert lecturers who also teaches in the same programmes in UWE Bristol.
Through these visits, Villa College strives to create opportunities for students doing UWE programmes to interact with these subject experts and get the “UK flavour” so that it contributes towards positive student experience.
The delegates will be here from 19 July 2018 till 25 July 2018 and will provide support to the academic staff in the form of Module Marking Workshops, Dissertation Module Support, Ethics and Supervision related workshops in addition to programme evaluation and lectures for the students. It is expected that these support sessions will help to ensure that the quality of delivery as well as assessment feedback and marking is on par with the level and expectation of UWE.
The application period for the September 2018 intake of Villa College programmes has commenced.
There are 95 programmes available including information technology, computer science, business management, teaching, education, economics sharia, law, Islam, Quran, Dhivehi, human resource, tourism, Hospitality, accounting, public health, ACCA, research,Nursing, Economics and marine studies, diving and water sports.
Among these, there are 13 master’s programmes, postgraduate diploma/certificate programmes, 20 degree programmes, 3 advanced diploma programmes, 18 diploma programmes, 11 foundation programmes, 11 certificate level 3 programmes, 2 certificate level 2 programmes as well as 8 programmes in marine studies.
In addition to Villa College’s own programmes, these include master’s and degree programmes from the University of the West of England.
Besides the opportunities to study at the QI campus in Male’, the same opportunities are available at Villa College Hithadhoo campus, Villa College Naifaru campus, Villa College Kulhudhuffushi campus, Villa College Lakeside campus (Sh. Fonadhoo) and Villa College Mahibadhoo.
The deadline for applications is 5th August 2018, and the programmes will commence in the first two weeks of September.
To make it easier for students to pay their fees, a monthly instalment option has been available since 2017.
Focus areas of this MoU are:
1. Conducting collaborative research in various areas of national relevance.
2. Cooperating in the dissemination of academic knowledge through conferences, seminars and other activities.
3. Capacity development in the area of conducting social research.
The MoU was signed by the Rector of Villa College Dr. Ahmed Anwar and Dr. Abdul Sattar Yoosuf, Executive Director, ENDEARVOR. This signing took place in Villa College this morning.
UWE has been awarded gold status in the latest UK government rankings for Higher Education providers
The University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) has been awarded gold status in the latest UK Government rankings for higher education providers.
UWE Bristol has been given the highest possible rating in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) 2018. Gold-standard institutions have provision that is consistently outstanding and of the highest quality found in the sector.
Advancing from the silver rating awarded in 2017, the University has been praised by assessors for outstanding graduate employability outcomes and successful approaches to personalised learning.
The framework, led by the Office for Students (OfS), measures the performance of all UK universities and higher education providers based on a wide range of factors including graduate employability, National Student Survey (NSS) results and learning environment.
The University is ranked in the top quartile of all higher education providers in the UK and is among only five universities in the South West to hold gold TEF status.
Villa College established a strong partnership with UWE in 2015 to deliver its programmes in Villa College. Up to now Villa College has produced over 150 graduates from UWE programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
