Our May 2020 Intake commences with around 43 programmes today, 14th March 2020. The semester commencement is marked with the orientation session for the new students. This semesters’ orientation session is being held online through Moodle. All newly admitted and registered students are requested to go through the contents of the Orientations Page on Moodle. Students are required to take a short Quiz in order for them to complete the general orientation. The purpose of the new students’ orientation is to welcome and introduce students to the Villa College rules and regulations, key services and resources that are available for the students to support their educational goals. The main parts of the orientation include the welcome by the Rector of Villa College, General rules and regulations, Online teaching and learning, Support services; Learning support, Student Services, Library Services, Student Ambassador Programme and Villa College Student Association, Student related policies and procedures, Orientation Quiz, Student testimonials, Ask VC: Discussion forum and FAQs
In addition to this, faculties will conduct their individual faculty orientations. In these faculty orientations, the respective faculties and staff will be introduced, with the relevant programme orientations.
During the current COVID-19 situation, all teaching and learning will be held through online means. Two teaching modes will be used for each module. They are, Synchronous learning; where online learning will be carried out through real-time activities (such as through live video via Hangout Meet or other live sessions) and Asynchronous learning; where classes will be delivered through recorded videos and structured tutorial activities.
Online class schedules will be made available to students through Moodle and communicated to students by faculties before commencement.
As some of our programmes are fully online, they will continue to be taught online even after the situation changes. However, most of our programmes are on-campus programmes, which are being taught online for the time being. They will return to normal as soon as possible.
Villa College is now open for applications for the May 2020 Intake.
May 2020 Intake was announced by the Vice Rector, Dr. Ali Najeeb in a special event held in Villa College. In this event, Mr. Hussain Afeef, Regional Director of Training, Development and Quality, LUX* South Ari Atoll delivered an inspirational career talk for the attendees. Moreover, Vice Rector, Dr. Ali Najeeb launched the Villa College Scholarship Scheme for this year, giving numerous opportunities and support for students in the field of higher education.
The new intake offers the opportunity to join 80 different courses from Certificate level 1 to Master’s Degree programmes in different fields, including Information Technology, Computer Science, Teaching, Education, Sharia, Law, Islam, Business Management, Human Resource Management, Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Economics, Research, Pharmacy, Psychology, Public Health, Nursing and Marine Science.
Among these, there are 13 Master’s programmes, 5 Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate programmes, 20 Degree programmes, 15 Diploma programmes, 13 Certificate level 4 (Degree Foundation) programmes, 11 Certificate level 3 programmes, 2 Certificate level 2 programmes and 1 Certificate level 1 programme. In addition, ACCA Knowledge level, Skill level and Professional level is also offered in the upcoming May 2020 intake.
In addition to Villa College’s own programmes, these include Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree programmes from the prestigious UK university, University of the West of England
Besides the opportunities to study at the QI campus in Male’, the same opportunities are available at all the Villa College campuses around the country.
Application deadline for the upcoming May 2020 intake is 09th April 2020, with studies set to commence within two weeks of the month of May.
Students will have the option to make their payments easily in monthly instalments throughout their programme. In addition, the students have the opportunity to study all the Bachelor’s Degree Programs offered in Villa College, through the Free First-Degree Scheme by the government.
Villa College LLB students who participated in the Law Students’ Conference & Colloquium 2019-2020 held in New Delhi from 21st to 23rd February, won the Jury’s Award for the best memorial presented during the SAARCLAW Mooting Competition. Three students participated in this conference and competition, accompanied by a coach. The participants are, Mariyam Anna Shaheer, Mohamed Raishan Moosa, Affan Umar Ahmed and Uza. Shabab Rasheed as the coach.
In addition to the competition, during the three-day event, two colloquiums (Students’ colloquium & Coaches colloquium) were conducted by the organizers. The colloquiums were on the theme Commonwealth Comparative Constitutional & Public Law (3CPL) Colloquium on "Public Law & Good Governance". One of the student participants, Mariyam Anna Shaheer presented a paper on “Gender Equality under the Light of the Driving Force: Tourism Sector”.
This conference was a huge opportunity for the students to build connections with regional counterparts who are active in mooting and student legal initiatives.

Villa College beats the World Average in the ACCA examinations held in December 2019. Students participating from Villa College in the ACCA examinations beat the World Average in 6 subjects. The subjects are Performance Management, Financial Management, Financial Reporting, Audit and Assurance, Strategic Business Reporting and Taxation.
Moreover, 4 students who completed the examinations in December 2019 were selected as Maldives National Resident Prize Winners. The prize winners are Ali Nabihu Mohamed Naeem (Performance Management), Ibrahim Muizzu (Financial Reporting), Ibrahim Shadhin Mohamed (Audit and Assurance) and Ali Alif (Strategic Business Reporting).

Villa College and Amrak Training Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct clinical and practical training, in nursing related skill areas. Amrak Training Institute is a training institute of Durdans Hospital, who has been conducting various training programmes at different levels in Sri Lanka. Under this agreement, our Diploma in Nursing students will complete a 1-month clinical externship in Durdans Hospital in their 3rd year. The first batch under this agreement is set to begin their clinical externship in September.
