Villa College signs a Memorandum of Agreement with Universal Foundation

A Memorandum of Agreement has been signed between Villa College and Universal Foundation. The signing ceremony was held on 4 February at Villa College. While the Rector, Dr Ahmed Anwar, signed on behalf of Villa College, the president of Universal Foundation, Mr Iyaz Waheed, signed for the foundation.

The purpose of this MOA is the development of human resources in the hospitality industry. This MOA is a continuation of the Discover Hospitality scheme that has been ongoing from 2017, at Certificate 3 level. More than 60 students have graduated with this certificate, and fully funded through this scheme.

Discover Hospitality is a scheme that is open to all eligible students, under the full sponsorship of Universal Foundation. Training is carried out in food and beverage service, housekeeping and front office work, among other services. Students will complete the theory modules of the certificate at the Villa College QI campus in Male’, after which the practical training will be done at various Universal resorts. Participants will also get a monthly allowance of MVR 3,000 for the duration of the course.

Anyone who has completed their basic education may apply for this programme; selection will be based on an interview.

The deadline to apply for this programme is 22nd February 2020. Villa College is happy to note that almost all the graduates from this programme are currently employed in the hospitality industry.

Studies commence for January 2020 Semester

Studies for January 2020 semester commenced with the Welcoming and Orientation Session for the new students.

The Rector of Villa College, Dr. Ahmed Anwar welcomed the new students and highlighted important points regarding Villa College and higher education.

Next, the Vice President of the Villa College Student Association gave information on the activities planned for this year. Furthermore, the Villa College Student Ambassadors were introduced for 2020 and the Student Ambassadors also addressed the gathering regarding their planned activities and events.

The new semester offered the opportunity to join 102 different courses from Certificate level 1 to Master’s Degree programmes in different fields, including Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Management, Teaching, Education, Sharia, Law, Islam, Quran, Human Resource Management, Accounting, Public Health, Nursing, ACCA, Research, and Marine Studies.

Among these, there are 13 Master’s programmes, 6 Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate programmes, 21 Degree programmes, 20 Diploma programmes, 13 Certificate level 4 (Degree Foundation) programmes, 13 Certificate level 3 programmes, 2 Certificate level 2 programmes and 1 Certificate level 1 programme, as well as 8 programmes in Marine Studies.

In addition to Villa College’s own programmes, these include Master’s and Degree programmes from the prestigious university of the UK, University of the West of England.

Besides studies commencing at the QI campus in Male’, studies will be commencing at all the Villa College atoll campuses and learning centres as well.

Students will be able to make payments easily in monthly instalment basis. In addition, the students have the opportunity to study all the Degree Programs offered in Villa College, through the Free First Degree Scheme by the government.

UWE – VC Graduation 2019

The UWE – VC Graduation 2019 was held on 16th November 2019, Saturday in Dharubaaruge.

A total of 345 students graduated from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from the University of the West of England. Addressing the gathering in the welcoming remarks, Rector of Villa College, Dr. Ahmed Anwar highlighted that the College is constantly reviewing processes to ensure that the graduates are ready to meet the challenges they will face in the real world. The Vice-Chancellor of UWE Bristol, Professor Steve West and Associate Dean - Strategic Partnerships, Dr. Fiona Jordan were also in attendance for this auspicious occasion. Vice-Chancellor of UWE Bristol, Professor Steve West advised the graduates to believe in their abilities, to be wise and using their skills and knowledge to make the world a better place than before, in his welcoming remarks.

After the conferment of degrees, graduates who achieved the Villa College Book Prize, the College Medal and Qasim Ibrahim Award for Excellence were given certificates and prizes. The Villa College Book Prize was awarded to 35 students from 10 different programmes. Certificates were awarded to the winners by the Rector of Villa College, Dr. Ahmed Anwar.

Founder of Villa College, Honourable Dr. Qasim Ibrahim emphasized on the importance for the graduates, of using the knowledge acquired from Villa College to improve and bring further growth to the country, in his address to the participants of the ceremony. The ceremony was concluded by a speech from a graduate. The speech was delivered by the recipient of the Qasim Ibrahim Award for Excellence from MSc Information Technology, Mr. Hassan Mohamed.

3 new programmes launched for the upcoming Jan 2020 intake

Villa College has launched 3 new programmes for the upcoming January 2020 intake.

The new courses launched in the upcoming intake are the MSc Nursing (International), Bachelor of Psychology and Certificate Level 4 in Creative Arts and Design.  

MSc Nursing (International) was launched by the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Shah Abdulla Mahir. The Bachelor of Psychology programme was launched by the Hinnavaru Constituency MP, Ms. Aminath Jeehan Mahmood. Finally, the Certificate 4 in Creative Arts & Design programme was launched by the Permament Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure, Ms. Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed. 

The new intake offers the opportunity to join 97 different courses from Certificate level 1 to Master’s Degree programmes in different fields, including Information Technology, Computer Science, Teaching, Education, Sharia, Law, Islam, Business Management, Human Resource Management, Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Economics, Research, Pharmacy, Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, Marine Studies and Water Sports.

Among these, there are 12 Master’s programmes, 5 Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate programmes, 21 Degree programmes, 17 Diploma programmes, 14 Certificate level 4 (Degree Foundation) programmes, 12 Certificate level 3 programmes, 2 Certificate level 2 programmes and 1 Certificate level 1 programme, as well as 8 programmes in Marine Studies. In addition, ACCA Knowledge level, Skill level and Professional level is also offered in the upcoming January 2020 intake.

In the programmes that were launched, Bachelor of Psychology and C4 in Creative Arts & Design is the College’s own programmes, while MSc Nursing (International) is from University of the West of England, a prestigious university of the UK.

Application deadline for the upcoming January 2020 intake is 26th December 2019, with studies set to commence within two weeks of the month of January.

Mentoring Workshop Conducted by School of Health Sciences

34 participants from 2 tertiary hospitals of Male’ participated today in a mentoring workshop conducted by the School of Health Sciences of Villa College. Participants from ADK and Hulhumale hospital took part in this workshop which was facilitated by the lecturers of Villa College.

The main aim of the workshop was to prepare the mentors to guide the mentees in achieving their clinical placement objectives. Through this workshop, the participants will be able to identify the objectives of upcoming Diploma in Nursing students clinical posting.

The participants were awarded with a certificate of completion by the Rector of Villa College, Dr. Ahmed Anwar.
