Programme Description

The aim of this programme is to produce graduates for pre-schools and early childhood entries to satisfy the country’s demand for qualified early childhood educators. The programme is designed to develop participants’ knowledge, skills, capabilities and attitudes in early childhood teaching.

The programme reflects the recent changes in National Curriculum Framework and puts emphasis on the holistic development of children along with reflective practice.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate critical understanding of main theories, concepts and principles of education, curriculum and pedagogy; and integrate them in early childhood teaching environment.
  • Apply a range of skills and practices in professional contexts to teaching environments where there is a degree of unpredictability.
  • Use professional level insights to evaluate and synthesize solutions to address issues related to early childhood education
  • Use a wide range of skills in language, mathematics, communication and ICT and specialized skills in the subject area to make formal and informal presentations to informed audiences.
  • Take initiative and independence to undertake significant responsibilities at professional level in teaching young learners, in an ethical manner.

General Entry Criteria

2 passes in A Level/HSC (At GCE A/L, a pass is considered E and above. HSSC pass is considered C and above.)

OR

Attainment of a Level 4 qualification in a related field

OR

Attainment of a Level 4 Foundation Study Program approved for the specific Diploma program.

Alternative Entry Criteria

20 years old, completion of a Level 4 qualification (unrelated), and successful completion of an MQA approved University Preparation Program

OR

20 years old, completion of secondary school, 2 years of relevant work experience, and successful completion of an MQA approved University Preparation Program
