Master of Research Studies

Program Synopsis

The Masters in Research Studies is a qualifying program as 'front-on' for research degrees for graduates from any discipline who do not have the appropriate research experience to undertake higher research degrees. It is designed for applicants who need additional skills in research in order to progress onto their research masters or doctoral program. The applicants will learn about research methodology, methods and ethics as they plan and conduct a research study that can lead onto higher degrees. The course will also provide the required knowledge, skills and confidence to interpret, evaluate and carry out research in any social setting.

Master of Research Studies in a two year programme where the students in the first year completes six compulsory modules to equip themselves with the necessary skills and competencies to undertake independent research and produce quality research output consistent with international benchmarks. Upon successful completion of this requirement to progress into higher degrees research the students will work on a research project for duration of two semesters to enable them to qualify to the award of Master of Research Studies. 

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Read educational and social research with an understanding of a range of research methodologies;
  • Define an issue in their discipline as an investigable research project;
  • Design a research project demonstrating understanding of the range of research methodologies available, and their relevance to the project;
  • Undertake a significant research project in their respective discipline;
  • Write up the results of the research project to demonstrate the capacity to adhere to the conventions of research.

  • Entry Requirement 
    • Completion of a MQA approved level 7 Bachelor Degree or equivalent
  • Alternative Entry
    • 30 years of age and above as of the commencement date of the relevant semester 
    • Has an MQA approved Diploma qualification 
    • Minimum five years of experience in relevant field 
    • Successfully pass an admission test administered by Villa College and interview
  • Duration 2 years
  • Intake January / May / September  
  • Course Fee MVR 60,000 (Payable in Installments)
  • MNQF Accredited Level Level 9
