Villa College has been granted membership of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is the world's first and oldest international university network, established in 1913. Members of the ACU are Universities and other higher education institutions across Commonwealth States which fulfil the ACU membership criteria and share similar steadfast beliefs in education, social responsibility, international development, and collaboration with other like-minded institutions.
The ACU administers scholarships, provides academic research and leadership on issues in the sector, and promotes inter-university cooperation and the sharing of good practice – helping universities serve their communities, now and into the future.
Members of ACU include some of the most prestigious Universities in the world such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of London, University of Melbourne and National University of Singapore.
Villa College is the first Maldivian higher education institution to be bestowed with membership of the ACU.
The current Patron of ACU is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
