You are advised to dress in formal clothes for your Graduation. An appropriate choice for formal attire is shirt and tie for the gentlemen and evening gown for the ladies. You may also choose to wear a traditional dress.
All graduands must wear the Academic Regalia. The academic regalia consist of three separate pieces:
i - The Gown
ii - The Hood
iii - The Mortarboard
The graduation gown is made of heavy, black polyester fabric, with wide sleeves and is worn open at the front.
The graduation hood is made of the same heavy, black polyester fabric, lined with satin fabric. The colour of the satin lining corresponds to the Faculty colours.
The Mortarboard(Graduation Cap)
The graduation cap is black, with a black tassel and is identical for all graduands.
Step 1: Wearing the Graduation gown
Place your arms through the arm holes as you would wear a jacket.
The gown is designed to be worn open at the front.
Step 2: Wearing the Graduation hood
Find the opening at the bottom of the hood.
Ensure that the coloured lining is on the inside and the black fabric is on the outside.
Slide the hood over your head with the black side facing up.
Rest the hood on the shoulders of your gown.
Place a pin in the front to attach the hood to the gown.
Fold over a section of the hood so that the coloured lining is visible.
Place another pin at the shoulders to prevent the hood from sliding back over your shoulders.
Ensure that the hood drapes neatly at the back.
Step 3: Wearing the Graduation Mortarboard
There is a front and back to the graduation cap.
When you look at the cap from the side, one end of the cap is slightly longer than the other. The shorter end should be worn towards the front.
Please note that because of the shape of the graduation cap, ladies will not be able to wear their hair up in a bun, or in a high pony-tail.
The cap is topped by a square mortarboard. When worn correctly, the board forms a diamond shape. The tip of the front point of the diamond should align with your nose
Pin the cap to your hair to keep it in place
The tassel should be on the right-hand side before graduating and after graduating it should be moved to the left
