English Language Support
Workshops and short courses
CELS offers a range of academic and general English language workshops and short courses. These include topics such as study skills, referencing and how to avoid plagiarism.
English Language Fellowship (ELF)
English Language Fellowship (ELF) is a dedicated club which aims to promote English language through fun language activities such as competitions and activity days.
Getting assistance in doing your coursework
It is very common that students experience difficulties with various coursework components. This is mainly because most of the students are new to the academic writing style and citation/referencing demanded in higher education.
This is one area where CELS staff can assist you. The English Ambulance service at CELS aims to help you when you are having a language crisis. Make an appointment with one of the staff to assist you. Please bring some of your written work along with you. Please note that the staff will NOT write your essays for you or proof-read your assignments. Rather, you will be guided on how to approach your coursework and how to use correct academic English.
Plagiarism is a serious offence for which you may be penalized. If you are not certain of what constitutes plagiarism or if you need assistance with paraphrasing and referencing, please make sure you attend the sessions on plagiarism. To sign up, drop by CELS or sign up in the file kept at the Student Desk.
